‘Apex Legends’ gets permanent solo queue

Apex Legends finally becomes sustainable solo mode, if probably not what you expected. Respawn and EA have revealed that they won’t just launch Mountain peak for Switch on March 9 alongside a Chaos Theory Collection event (more on that later), but introduce a “no-fill” solo queue option. Uncheck a box in the lobby and the matchmaking system will send you into battle without adding any teammates. Unfortunately, you will still be faced with duets or trios – this is more of a new level of difficulty than the true free-for-all experience you could have wished for.

There are caps on it to avoid skewing the matches. You cannot use this queue solo in ranked play, and no more than six unfilled players are allowed in a match.

As for the Chaos Theory event? You’ll see the expected number of themed skins and heirlooms, but there are also some functional changes coming at the same time. A survival slot provides a slot for “situational utilities,” including a new heat shield element that temporarily protects you from damage outside the ring. The shield is initially cast to help you deal with a Ring Fury “escalating takeover” (where pockets of the ring will appear inside the safe zone), but it will generally be useful for revive downed allies or to eliminate vulnerable squads.

A Caustic City Takeover adds a “mousetrap” that promises golden loot items for those who act quickly.

The updates will not change the fundamental mechanics of the game. However, the single player option at least recognizes that a lot of people don’t want to have teammates, whether they are frequent lone wolves or just simply feel not particularly sociable.
