Tesla Offers 50% Off Overnight Supercharger Use In California
Tesla gives California owners a sweet incentive to use its Compressor network during off-peak hours. The automaker was sending owners in the region, a message through their app, letting them know they can save 50% on their billing fees if they connect to a Supercharger between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. Compressor rates vary by location, with some costing up to $ 0.40 / kWh – even higher for peak rates, especially during the summer. Some owners pay up to $ 40 to fully charge their electric vehicles.
The automaker launched a discount promotion in California for a very limited time over Halloween weekend last year. This time, he charged homeowners $ 0.09 / kWh if they use the Supercharger between 9:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. the next day. While this promotion doesn’t offer such a big discount, half the discount could mean huge savings for homeowners and, like Electrek underlines, the possibility for Tesla to compensate for high fees during peak demand. That said, the deal is only available in major metropolitan areas across the state, where more owners may not have their own home chargers and must rely on charging networks for their electric vehicles. Sales of electric vehicles are on the rise in California, and more people will buy Teslas in the future.
It’s not clear at this point whether the half-night rates are permanent or a limited-time offer. We have contacted Tesla and will update if we have a response.
